Comprehensive Renovation of the "Mercado de la Ribera" in Bilbao

The "Mercado de la Ribera", situated beside the Bilbao's sea inlet, is a commercial reference for all Vizcaya. Since its beginnings, in the 14th century, it has turn into an important social and economical point his surroundings, that, nowadays, is living lot of urban changes.

In 1929, the architect Pedro Ispizua was the person in charge of building this market. In the middle of the 2009, the renovation started, at the hands of Emilio Puertas architect. In September 2010, the first phase of the building is inaugurated. 

I worked here as a site and production manager, and as an architect, in the laste two phases of the project.

Hotel-museum in Timanfaya

2010, together with N.Clúa, A.Martín and S.Villanueva.

The project's aim is to make the visitors feel as if they were inside a volcano, and with this idea arised the ground plan which imitated the movement of the lava ones it comes out.

The program has been developed in a way that it all revolves around a central space, which is used as a museistic area and simbolizes a volcano's interior. From there on, playing with the scale of the spaces, visitors can either go to the cafeteria or dorms and enjoy the amazing views of this wonderful volcanic area.

Sculptural Arts Centre

2009

The Sculptural and Plastic Arts Centre, in Pamplona (Spain), pretended not only to create favorable surroundigns for the production, investigation and exchange between the artists, but also to be open to an offer of cultural activities and of diffusion of the work of the artists.

To achieve that aim, a central courtyard, through which, all the living spaces stay connected.

Rogelio Rivel Circus

2011

The project  is situated in the northern part of Barcelona, in the Nous Barris, a very difficult area due to its old and neglected buildings, but at the same time establishes the limit between the city and the mountainside.
Due to this complexity, the strategy used was the creation of a self-contained building, with  a lot of inner life, but at the same time it was necessary that the building interacted with the mountainside. The project is based on the aspect that a circus tent has, Thanks to the movement of the roof, the building achieve the aim of being connected with the mountain.

Film Studies Centre

2011

The project consists of a  Centre for Film Studies in Bilbao, in the emblematic area of the San Antón bridge and the "Mercado de la Ribera". Thus, the key to this project  is creating a building which will enable an urban regeneration.
From that point onwards, the main idea is to create an upstroke, with the most public spaces, such as the cafeteria and the library situated at the end of the  route which benefit form the spectacular views to the river.
